Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs, Cast Sheep and Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Monday 27th March 2023.

Prime Hoggs

All classes of hoggs were once again in strong demand at Lancaster with 728 forward averaging 254p/kg. Heavy hoggs were keenly bid for, selling to a top of £144 twice firstly for Suffolks from S Ayrton, Thurnham and secondly for Texels from RE&P Miller, Barnacre. Continental bred heavy hoggs were regularly £130-£135 per head. Beltex hoggs are always in strong demand at Lancaster, topping at £143 for 43kg hoggs from LA Bradshaw, Stalmine. Standard weight export type hoggs were regularly selling at the 260-270p/kg mark. There was a bigger show of Mule hoggs forward with the best peaking at £118 from J Fryers, Kirkham with heavy Mule hoggs regularly selling at £115 plus. Cheviot sold to a top of £117 from J Bargh, Heaton with Oxcliffe. Horned hoggs saw Swaledales sell to £108 twice at 46kg from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Fit horned hoggs regularly sold at the 220-235p/kg mark.

Cast Sheep

One hundred and thirty ewes were forward with the edge just off the trade, Texel ewe sold to a top of £138 from EM Cooper, Thornton who sold others to £134. The best of the Mule ewes were regularly £100 plus, topping at £124 from PJ&SM Woodhouse, Forton. There were more hill ewes on offer today which saw Dalebred sell to £89 from RG Woodhouse, Scorton with the best Horned ewe frequently £70 plus. All ewes forward averaged £82, with over half the sale being hill bred sheep.

Sheep with Lambs at Foot

Thirty outfits were on offer today at Lancaster with all selling to a competitive trade. Aged Texel ewes with Texel twin lambs from TR Gorst, Bay Horse topped at £260 twice. Aged Mule ewes with Texel twins from B&J Preston, Caton sold to £230. Buyers are showing a keen interest for all types of ewes and lambs at Lancaster, please enter with confidence.
